Vice President, Global Talent Assessment & Development
Dr. Church is the Vice President of Global Talent Assessment and Development at PepsiCo. He is responsible for setting the enterprise talent assessment and development strategy for high-potential identification throughout all levels of the organization, and strengthening the leadership pipeline via the People Planning talent review process. Along with leading the global strategy and execution of these efforts, Allan and his team deliver high-touch internal assessment and development efforts to top executive talent.
Prior to this role he served as VP of Organization Development for PepsiCo’s Global Groups where he led the talent and capability agenda for global functions and category groups (e.g., Global Snacks, Global Beverages, Global Nutrition, and Global Marketing). Before that Allan was the VP of Global Talent Development and VP of Organization & Management Development where he designed and delivered many of PepsiCo’s core people processes and tools including the Organizational Health survey, 360 degree/Hogan feedback, Performance Management, Manager Quality Performance Index and People Planning.
During his career at PepsiCo he has also had responsibility for many additional and diverse practice areas including HR analytics, leading a global talent and performance management systems transformation, external non-financial reporting of key human capital metrics, creating the first PepsiCo career model and employer brand, and institutionalizing new diversity and inclusion measures. Allan joined PepsiCo in December 2000. Previously he spent nine years as an external OD consultant working for W. Warner Burke Associates where he designed 360-degree feedback and organizational survey interventions for Fortune 100 clients. He also spent several years at IBM in the Communications Measurement and Research, and Corporate Personnel Research departments where he worked on advertising research and the global employee opinion survey.
On the side he has served as an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University, and Chair of the Mayflower Group (a survey consortium). For the past three years he was SIOP’s Publications Officer and has spent a total of 11 years on the SIOP Executive Board in various leadership positions. Currently he is an Executive Committee member of the Conference Board’s Council of Talent Management and an incoming member of the Board of Directors for the Human Resource Planning Society (HRPS). He is also on the editorial board of a number of professional journals including Industrial-Organizational Psychology: Practice and Research, Consulting Psychology Journal, Journal of Social Psychology, the Journal of Business and Psychology, the Journal of Applied Behavioral Science, and the OD Practitioner.
Allan has served as former Editor of the OD Journal, The Industrial-Organizational Psychologist, Human Resource Development International, and co-editor of SIOP’s Professional Practice Book Series. An active writer, he has authored several books, over 30 book chapters, and over 150 practitioner and scholarly articles. Allan is a frequent speaker at professional meetings and conferences and is also a recurring guest lecturer at USC Marshall School of Business, Columbia Business School, and Columbia’s Executive Masters Program in Change Leadership. Allan received his Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology from Columbia University. He is a Fellow of the Society for Industrial-Organizational Psychology, the American Psychological Association, and the Association for Psychological Science.
