Richard Vosburgh  SVP-HR, MGM Mirage Resorts


Richard started May 1, 2006 as Senior Vice President-Human Resources for MGM Mirage Resorts in Las Vegas, Nevada.  In addition to the Mirage Resorts properties reporting to him (including Bellagio), he has responsibility for the Project City Center.  This is the largest privately funded development in the history of the US--resulting in 12,000 new jobs in the next three years. 

At HP, Richard had region responsibility for the 14 Country HR managers and shared services HR support through Compensation, Benefits, Staffing, HR Operations, Employee Communications and Mergers/Acquisitions.His team of 180 supports 34,000 employees across the four HP Business Groups.He chaired the Region HR Council and sat on the Asia Pacific/Japan Leadership Team.Previously, he was VP-HR for HP's Americas Enterprise Systems Group, covering Latin America, the United States and Canada.For several years before the HP merger with Compaq, he was VP-HR in Compaq North America ($15 Billion revenue and 15,000 employees).

Richard has 25 years post-Ph.D. experience in many highly respected organizations.  Previous to his 5+ years with HP, he was VP-HR for a division of Campbell Soup Company and Chief HR Officer for its spin-off, Vlasic Foods International.  Before that he was VP-HR for Hyatt Hotels and Resorts and VP-HR for Mervyn's department stores.  Richard spent ten years with PepsiCo in the two fastest growing divisions: Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.  He has also worked outside of HR: In sales and marketing while in Germany with Volkswagen as the executive leading Customer Satisfaction within the worldwide dealership network; and then reporting to the President of The Gallup Organization, selling and servicing large global accounts for customer satisfaction measurement, talent assessment and employee satisfaction measurement, doing much of that work in Europe.

 

Richard has lived just about everywhere, but his roots are in both Florida and Maine.  His Industrial & Organizational Psychology Ph.D. is from the University of South Florida (1979).  He has been married twenty-three years with a daughter (19) and son (15).  He enjoys staying in shape with regular workouts at the fitness center and a little tennis and golf.  He has authored numerous journal articles and one book published by Van Nostrand Reinhold (1987) entitled Career Development for Engineers and Scientists.  "The 21st Century Human Resources Function: It's the Talent, Stupid!" appeared in the Human Resource Planning journal in March 2002.  Richard remains active in the non-profit Human Resource Planning Society (HRPS) as a member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee.  He co-chaired the 2002 HRPS annual conference and has served since January 2003 as the Executive Editor for the Human Resource Planning journal.  He was on the Board of Directors of HP's Federal LLC (chairing the HR/Compensation Committee); and is currently on the Advisory Board for the University of Southern California's Center for Effective Organizations.
