Chief Human Resources Officer
Monique R. Herena is the Chief Human Resources Officer of American Express and is a member of the company's executive committee. As CHRO, Herena is responsible for all aspects of the organization's human resources strategy, including talent management, leadership development, and compensation and benefits, as well as leading all human resources functions globally. Prior to joining American Express, Herena served as Senior Executive Vice President and CHRO of BNY Mellon from 2014 to 2019. In that role, Herena was responsible for all human resources strategies, policies, and practices for more than 52,000 employees around the world. Ms. Herena spent 13 years with PepsiCo before joining BNY Mellon and advanced through a variety of leadership positions, most recently as Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Chief Human Resources Officer for PepsiCo Global Groups, Functions and Corporate. Ms. Herena holds a B.A. in communication studies from the University of Wisconsin – Parkside, an M.A. in communication studies from Northern Illinois University, and an M.A. in organizational psychology, with a concentration in change leadership, at Columbia University.
